Barbara J. Dalton, PhD - Chair

Dr. Dalton is Vice President of Venture Capital at Pfizer Inc. where she is responsible for Pfizer Venture Investments, managing the current private equity portfolio and advising on structured equity transactions. Dr Dalton was a founding member of EuclidSR Partners, a private venture capital firm. She began her business career as a research scientist at SmithKline before moving to their venture capital subsidiary, S.R. One, Limited. In these roles she has managed diverse fund and company investments throughout the world. Alere, Corixa, Genset, Lexicon, OGS, Third Wave, and Rib-X are a few of the companies she has worked with in the past. Dr Dalton is an advisor to the Dean of the Penn State Eberly College of Science, where she received her undergraduate degree, and a member of The Penn State Research Foundation Board of Directors. She leads the Healthcare Investing Group of the New York City Investment Fund and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation and the National Venture Capital Association. Dr Dalton received her PhD in Immunology and Microbiology from The Medical College of Pennsylvania.


Johan Kördel, PhD, Assoc. Prof. - Director

Johan Kördel is a senior partner at Lundbeckfond Ventures. He worked at Pharmacia for 10 years where he held a number of positions in R&D including that of deputy head of metabolic diseases and endocrinology discovery research. He then moved to work in the Biotech industry for another 10 years, co-founding several companies. Biovitrum AB (IPO OMX Stockholm Exchange 2006), now part of SOBI AB, was one of these, where he served as both SVP of Research and SVP of Business Development. Johan holds a Ph. D. in physical chemistry from Lund University, Sweden, has worked at Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA, and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, and is an associate professor of physical chemistry at Lund University, Sweden. He presently serves on the boards of: Acacia Pharma Ltd., BoneSupport AB, EQL Pharma AB, Syntaxin Ltd.


Lauren Silverman PhD

Dr. Lauren Silverman is a Managing Director of the Novartis Option Fund in Cambridge, MA, USA. Prior to joining the Option Fund she was Global Head of Oncology Research Operations for Novartis. Previously, Lauren spent much of her career in Licensing & Business Development, first at OSI Pharmaceuticals and later at Pfizer with responsibilities in the areas of CNS, ophthalmology and oncology. Lauren was also a Director of Strategic Alliances and Head of Cell Biology where she led multiple research teams after having been a founding scientist of Cadus Pharmaceuticals. Lauren was a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Princeton University and earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Utah. She serves on the Business Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Research Foundation's Epilepsy Therapy Project, National Cancer Institute's SBIR review panel, Mass Life Sciences Center Scientific Advisory Board and Board of Directors of Science Club for Girls. Lauren currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Novartis Venture Funds portfolio companies: Anchor Therapeutics, Ra Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Proteostasis Therapeutics, Pulmatrix Inc., Viamet Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Celladon Corporation.


Daniel R. Omstead, PhD

Daniel R. Omstead, Ph.D., is President and Chief Executive Officer of Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management, Inc. He is also President of H&Q Life Sciences Investors and H&Q Healthcare Investors, two NYSE listed closed-end mutual funds that make venture and public equity investments principally in small, emerging healthcare-related companies. Prior to joining HQCM, Dan was President and CEO of Reprogenesis, Inc. a private development stage biotech company developing therapies in the field of regenerative medicine. In 2000, Reprogenesis was merged with two other biotech companies to form Curis, Inc. Before joining Reprogenesis, Dr. Omstead was Senior Vice President, Research and Development at Cytotherapeutics, Inc a public biotech company that developed CNS therapies. Prior to entering the biotech industry, Dan was employed for fourteen years in the pharmaceutical industry at Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation and at the R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute, both divisions of Johnson and Johnson and at Merck Sharpe and Dohme Research Laboratories, a division Merck and Company, Inc. While at J&J, Dan participated in the development of Orthoclone OKT3™, Eprex™/Procrit™ and other biological products. While at Merck, he worked on the development of Recombivax™, Mefoxin™, Heartguard™ and other traditional drug products. Dan holds Doctoral and Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry from Columbia University and a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University.


Joshua Funder, PhD

Dr Joshua Funder joined GBS in 2004. Before joining GBS Joshua worked at Infinity Pharmaceuticals in Boston and the Boston Consulting Group in San Francisco. In addition he worked with the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative to successfully negotiate reduced prices for anti-retrovirals and initiate pharmaceutical supplies across eastern and southern Africa. Joshua served as interim CEO of Proacta Inc following GBS investment and is on the board of directors of GBS portfolio companies OPAL Inc, Spinifex Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd, Pathway Therapeutics Inc and Celladon Inc. Joshua was director of GBS investee company Peplin Inc (ASX:PLI) which won the AVCAL award for the best early stage investment in 2010. Joshua earned his BSc. (Hons) and LLB. (Hons) degrees at Melbourne University and his LLM at the London School of Economics. He holds a D.Phil in intellectual property for biotechnology from Oxford University where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.


Drew Senyei, MD

Managing Director of Enterprise Partners since 1988, has over 25 years experience in the building of emerging, technology and healthcare companies. Enterprise Partners has invested in more than 200 emerging growth companies since 1985. Enterprise Partners’ investors include major university endowments, corporate pension funds and institutional funds.
Dr. Senyei has served on the Boards of over 30 private and public companies.  Drew was named one of the Top VC’s in the US by Forbes magazine 2006 Midas Touch List. He is the recipient of the 2007 E & Y San Diego Master Entrepreneur Award.  In addition, to serving on The Board of Trustees at Northwestern University, he is the past Chair for UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering Advisory Council and past president of San Diego Opera.
Dr. Senyei has authored over 30 peer reviewed articles.  In addition, he has over 25 patents including semiconductor devices used in pharmaceutical manufacturing and the first FDA approved test to predict premature birth, a 20 billion dollar world healthcare problem.
Dr. Senyei received his M.D. from Northwestern University and completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Irvine, where he served on the faculty prior to becoming active full time with venture capital funding of early stage medical companies.


Krisztina M. Zsebo, PhD - Chief Executive Officer and Director

Dr. Zsebo is a biopharmaceutical veteran with 23 years of experience in the industry, Dr. Zsebo has been involved in numerous successful ventures. Prior to joining Celladon, she was a Venture Partner at Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, and held executive positions at Remedyne Corporation, Connetics, ALZA, Cell Genesys, and Amgen.
